Welcome to the London household in Week 4 of Mesa Vista!

These two are best friend townies Sarah Cwik and Melissa Kalson. (Actually, I have no idea if they're best friends, but this made me think of how I was practically joined at the hip to my friends at that age. They're just taking it to the next level.)
And what do they have to do with Brandon London, you might be asking? Not much! At least, not beyond witnessing a pivotal moment in his life.
But... I'm getting ahead of myself again! It all began...

... with Brandon London having a quiet breakfast on his new patio. He had moved out of Kerie Ng's house with a backpack full of items equal in value to what he had originally moved in with, plus the money he had earned from his first days in the Athletic career. His new house was a perfect bachelor pad just down the street from hers on Seren Drive, named after the builder of the small modern desert homes that were plopped onto it.

At Kerie's, it had begun with Rebecka Rossi, followed by Yvette Tan. And now the hottest one yet stopped by, at his own place!
"So, you're the one the girls in Mesa Vista are saying is irresistible?" asked Kaylynn Spitzig.
"Irresistible? Me? Why, it was only one genie wish."
Hey, honesty was something Kerie had said she appreciated, so maybe the others would too.

"You might want to ask your genie for that wish back."

"Beautiful day for a jog, isn't it, Meadow?"
"Excuse me, you're in my way."
He stepped aside. "So you wouldn't..?"
But Meadow continued on her merry way.

Next to show up was neighbor Marie Sims.
"Brandon *mwah!*, I'm happy that you decided to stay on our street! What would you say if we..."

"...start a Neighborhood Watch! I mean, since we're the ones in Mesa Vista getting hit the hardest."
"Er, that's a great idea, Marie."
"All right, then! I'd better go and figure out how to set one up. See you!"

"Howdy there, Brandon! Is this your new place?"
"Sure is, sugar," Brandon teased, mimicking Yvette Tan from a certain winter's night at Kerie's.

"Dear me, I don't know what got into me that night!"
"Yvette, I know I'm not imagining things, you did smooch me."
"Don't remind me... Ugh, I'm so embarrassed!"
"I didn't mean to embarrass you, it's just this move has been a little confusing for me."

"I'm sorry for adding to the confusion," she said with a little bow.
"Diane Shin has gotten to you too?"
"I know, isn't it silly half the town is doing it like we've actually been there before!"

Despite their awkward re-encounter, Brandon and Yvette remained friends, and he invited her to stay for dinner.
"That was a pretty strange deal there earlier, but I'm glad you came over, Yvette."
"... So am I."
"Just one more thing. That night... you said to give you a call if I..."
"I know, don't remind me!"
"... Would it be okay to call you sometime?"
"Sure, I guess..."

Brandon did a little soul- and friends panel searching, and came to the conclusion his wish for beauty must have worn off during the move.
Things could have been worse, though, he could have been one of those Romance types driven to have twenty something-or-others, but he wasn't.

He was one of those Romance types that wanted to be a Hall of Famer in the Athletic career, and as luck would have it, there were unlimited openings in Mesa Vista for that.

Brandon found himself thinking of Yvette quite a lot and invited her over to his house again, this time for a date.
Yvette revealed on that date she wanted to kiss.
Perfect, move her in!
"Would you like to move in?"
Go on, girl, say yes!
"Okay."

Finally, I thought, two Romancers sharing a house! Kids were not a priority since I had a pretty good idea what their kids would look like. Plus, an open relationship would be fun to play for a change.

While Brandon plotted out the evening's romance, Yvette couldn't stop thinking of what poor Madeleine Mazza was going through, losing Neil Cameron like that. And with a newborn! She would be devastated if that ever happened to her...
*Sigh* It was no wonder she was being so coy this time around, it turned out what Yvette wanted wasn't the kiss of a fellow Romancer, but that of a Family Sim. My wonderful plans, shot to shinola! :(

After adjusting their turn-ons, the couple had a surprising two bolts with each other, but strangely, neither wanted to woohoo, so they just slept on their first night together.

Brandon finally got the punching bag and Body skilling became much easier, not to mention more fun.

Meanwhile, Zach stopped by and apparently was up to his old tricks.
"It's a pity you have to quit your job in Politics, Yvette."
"Oh, I forgot about that."
"Well? Don't you think you should call them?"
"I prefer my grilled cheese hot, I'll call them later."

One grilled cheese sandwich later...
"Hello? I'm afraid I'm going to have to quit, I've moved to Mesa Vista and can no longer fulfill my duties as an Assembly Person."
(Zach looks like a cat that just swallowed a canary...)

"Can I ask you something, Yvette?"

"What are you going to do now that you're unemployed? You'd make one fine-lookin' Criminal Mastermind."
"Zach, ya don't rightly think parents would take kindly to an Education Minister with a criminal past, now would ya?"
"I suppose not. How about a General? They wouldn't..."
"Now Zach, I'm sorry but it just doesn't fit in with my plans! Tell ya what," she added when he started wringing his hands, "come to my new beauty shop and I'll give ya a makeover, on the house. How's that?"
Zach sighed and took his leave. Seriously, what was wrong with the people in this town? Four aspiring Mad Scientists, and there sat Mesa Vista's military base, gathering dust.

After a couple of searches through the meager job listings, Yvette finally found an opening in Education.

I really didn't know what to do with these two, so I thought an "unplanned" pregnancy might make things interesting and decided to let the game decide.

Nice shot of Yvette with her makeover.
And no lullaby. I was relieved.

"Does it count as a homerun if we didn't get pregnant right off the bat?"
"That's a tacky thing to say."

Yvette was beginning to wonder what kind of a Family Sim she was, and about her feelings for Brandon in general. She certainly hadn't rolled a want for having a baby, so why should they force it? Perhaps it was for the best that they had struck out the other night.

What was turning out to be a rather lackluster home life for Brandon and Yvette was made up for with this newest little jewel on Mesa Vista's main drag: Re-Nu-Yu Salon, the town's first beauty shop!

Yvette took Brandon along for help with the grand opening. He was on her mind a lot, mostly because she didn't know what to do about him, while he was just glad to have a girlfriend.

The customers seemed to like Re-Nu-Yu and gave stars for Yvette's attempts at selling makeovers, but no one would actually pay for them.

When she took a break, it dawned on her she should have boned up on her Cleaning skill for her styling badge. She needed it for the Education career as well, but she was only up a couple of levels, so what could she say? She didn’t have any yet.

"I know you from school... Melissa Kalson, isn't it? Prepare to become my new masterpiece!"
Melissa eyed the new substitute teacher dubiously.
"And it's on the house," Yvette cajoled. "Here." She held out a pack of gum and let the teen choose first before popping a piece in her own mouth.

"Scouts honor, you'll be the envy of your classmates come tomorrow morning!"

"Oh, I love it, thank you!"

"Let's see now... what ya need is a good loosenin' up, Payton."

"Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say ya could be Ringo's double!"

"See? No reason to be nervous, Sarah, we can wow them at school tomorrow."
"I'm not sure I trust her."
"And the bowl? How's it working for you?"
"Very funny."
"DO EET!"

"Dayumn, Payton, lookin' good! Brandon! Stop splashing, I could really use some help."
"Awww!"

"Sarah Cwik, what can I do for ya?"

"I don't know. Just nothing too radical, okay?" Sarah said, mesmerized by the new teacher's hair.
"Feeling a little cautious, are ya?"
She nodded with a little gulp.
"Never fear, my dear, I'll take good care of ya!"

"See, not too different, just better."
"Gee, thanks, Ms. Tan!"
"Didn't I tell ya?"
Such a deal everyone was getting – not a single misfire! Yvette may not have been making money yet, but seeing the satisfaction on the faces of her customers was a special kind of reward. She really had knack for this!

"Brandon, long time no see!"
"Rebecka!"
"You haven't forgotten about me, have you?"

The smile suddenly froze on Yvette's face...

"WHAT IN TARNATION ARE YOU DOING?!"
"Oh, is a hug bad now?"
"I BROUGHT YOU HERE TO HELP OUT. THIS IS YOUR IDEA OF HELPING?!"
"Calm down, she hugged me!"

"CALM DOWN?! I DON'T NEED THIS AND I DON'T NEED YOU!"
"OWWW, STOP THAT! NO NEED TO GO ALL PSYCHO ON ME!"

"Excuse me," Yvette responded sweetly. "Allow me to show you OUT!"
"Just back off, I'm going! The last thing I need is some crazy..."
"Not crazy, Brandon," she interrupted calmly, and it wasn't an act. "Clarity. It's called clarity. I see things very clearly now."
"Clearly crazy's more like it."
"Look, I'm staying a while longer, I can manage just fine on m'own. Now scoot, the both of ya!"

Rebecka Rossi, however, wasn't leaving without her complimentary makeover...

Dag nabbit! Yvette tried several times for a misfire, but she's a frickin' natural, and the best she could come up with was this.

Which surprisingly turned out to be somewhat of an improvement, and I realized a Brandon/Rebecka genetic combo looked like something I could get behind, plus they also have two bolts.

Now that looks like someone ready to fight for her man!

So! A rather mundane play session ended with quite a bang and solved my dilemma with these two into the bargain.

Yvette was almost asleep on her feet by the time she closed up her shop, and without thinking started to slide into the bed she had shared with Brandon since moving in with him.
"I'll sleep on the couch," Brandon said, still smarting from the day's earlier events.
"No, it's your bed, I'll take the couch."
"I didn't do anything wrong," he insisted.
"We were wrong, as a couple. And I can tell, you like Rebecka."
"..."
"And she likes you."
"..."
"I'll be moving out tomorrow."
"Whatever."

She would have moved out that night, but she was sooooo tired...

Bright and early Monday morning, Yvette found herself a new place and didn't look back.

"But I liked you," Brandon said softly, too softly for her to hear.

The London/Tan household ended the week with Brandon making Assistant Coach, two levels shy of Hall of Famer.
We'll see if he and Rebecka are a better fit, or maybe he'll become a confirmed bachelor and adopt. Or both!

As for Yvette Tan, she move into this cute little starter. Her immediate plan for the following week is to get started on her Cleaning skill for her career in Education and to see if it will help her to be able to start charging for makeovers at Re-Nu-Yu Salon.

Thanks to you all for reading!

"Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say ya could be Ringo's double!" Lol'd at that, cause it's true :D

Nice update! Brandon and Yvette didn't really seem to work out from the start so it's probably better they ended things. I think Brandon and Rebecka would be a good match!

And I can see why Sarah Cwik would have her reservations about letting Yvette giving her make over :P Yvette's hair is quite... special ;)

Can't wait to read about the other households :)

Thank you! Lol, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he looks like Ringo!

The first time I saw Yvette with that hair, I knew I wanted her to have a salon! :D

Welp, that's one problem that solved itself!

The customers seemed to like Re-Nu-Yu and gave stars for Yvette's attempts at selling makeovers, but no one would actually pay for them.

Huh, does that mean that your chair was glitched too, or were your customers just feeling penurious that day? Or maybe they were scared of Yvette's hair? (Though personally I love it. ^^)

I don't think the chair is glitched, and I'm pretty sure I set the price to dirt cheap. I asked about it over at boolprop, and the consensus was it's probably a combination of no styling badge yet and a low business rank. We'll see! *crosses fingers*

Oh, I love Yvette's hair too! It's pretty amazing!

Oh, Brandon Brandon Brandon. Not as smooth with the ladies as he'd like to think, so it's good there was no lullaby. Funny, I kind of think Yvette looks like a good stylist -- just a stylist at one of those funky alternative salons, you know?

Great update, Lorin! :D Sorry for the late late comment... :(

I kind of picture Yvette as an artistic sort, so I think the hair really suits her!

Comments are good anytime, plus I'm usually pretty late on commenting on Ruth's, so no need to be sorry.

I just read the entirety of your Mesa Vista stories, and I love them!! I've only just got into reading BaCC projects, but they've really hooked me in general: I like all the businesses, the idea of rotation, and the variety of characters included. Yours is, as I saw someone had put, like a little desert soap opera, which works fantastically well! I like the little side challenges you've included to break up the gameplay, and the mixture of happy families and alternative lifestyles.

I was hoping Brandon and Yvette could be happy together, but once they broke up I realised how weird they were as a couple! I do like him, though, especially his interactions with Noah back in the day, but maybe he just isn't made for marriage... Having recently installed ACR myself, I tend to turn jealousy off on most lots, especially those with Romance sims, as accidents can happen way too often - and it seems so harsh to be reprimanded for "cheating" when the other person instigated a hug...

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this!! I don't know why it took me so long to read it - probably the fact that I'd never looked in the BaCC thread on Boolprop didn't help much. :P But it's a great story, and I hope you find it really enjoyable to play and write.

Thanks, Lucy. I love the difference in BaCC playstyle vs. an Apocalypse. They're almost the reverse of each other, which is a fun change for me! I probably wouldn't have had the will to learn how to play businesses if I hadn't started Mesa Vista, but I find I really like what they add to the game.

A small-town soap opera seemed to suit a BaCC perfectly, plus it gave me the opportunity to steer away a bit from my usual romantic focus in my storytelling. As the population grows, though, the writing is starting to overwhelm me again :(, which is what I wanted to avoid when I started this, so I'm in the process of figuring out a good balance of less-taxing observational with enough character development to make the families interesting to me and hopefully my readers.

Thanks again for the comment! :)
