I will always rather read a good challenge than a story made with sim pictures (not talking about Mesa Vista but generally). But I don't see why you can't have both, some families, some updates naturally draw you this or that way, I don't know if this makes much sense, but basically, I think we shouldn't pressure ourselves into writing it a specific way, turning it into a chore sometimes. It is afterall for fun! When I'm inspired to write a bit of dialogue or background, I do it, if I'm not, I don't.
