Hi, I finally have another Mesa Vista update, and saying I'm glad/relieved to get this one finished is an understatement!

Welcome back to Mesa Vista! This is our first visit to Yvette Tan’s home, fresh from her breakup with Brandon London, who is now engaged and happily cohabitating with Rebecka Rossi.
Yvette wants to be an Education Minister, and she also owns the Re-Nu-Yu Salon.
Be prepared to enter the random zone...

What a pair, eh?
(I must track Nikki Zhang down and move her in some time down the road, because I think she’s hilarious!)

Oh dear, I hope “keep this up” doesn’t mean Yvette will be making a habit of breaking up with a boyfriend each week!
But mainly, this picture is proof that the Visitor Controller was the culprit in causing my Sims to return home from work in their everyday clothes for all these months. Once I took it out, Yvette returned in the same work outfit she left in. I haven’t decided if that glitch is enough to make me want to keep out the mod.

Here is her house, by the way:
Desert Bloom by iCad at MTS (I removed some building elements and landscape plants so Yvette could afford to furnish it.)

The outside stairs led to the roof, which was perfect for stargazing in the desert night.

SQUEEE I saw my first Simstars ever! (Thanks simlili for keeping my hope alive, and the 45-degree/ceiling view tip!)
“*AHEM*”

Oh, right. OHAI, Mr. Science guy! First time I’ve seen him too.
You can see Yvette also purchased a few solar panels with some of her promotion money. Mesa Vistans are true believers in green energy now, though I don’t think she has enough panels yet to get a rebate.

The only thing Yvette had in her inventory when I started playing her was one fish and two boots she’d caught at Rossi Fine Fishing, which she summarily ate and sold.

One thing I love about playing a BaCC, is the tax structure keeps most of my households from rolling in simoleons, so winning chance cards really has a financial impact!

Despite the promotions and chance cards, something about Yvette’s week felt lacking.

I thought a change in clothes might spark a little something though I don’t know why, and it didn’t work.
It was getting pretty bad when the walk-bys were more entertaining to watch than Yvette, despite her awesome hair.
(The fake-out has got to be my favorite greeting, probably because I’ve done it with my own family for years.)

I almost forgot Yvette had taken up flowering arranging when she was living at Brandon’s and had moved out of his place with a silver badge. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to get her gold yet this week, and even if she had, she had no plans of owning a flower shop.
Yvette had so much going on, maybe my problem was too much.

Nah, let’s get a bird too!
Meet Bianca, Yvette’s new cockatiel (I think) and the first time I indulged a Sim’s want to buy a bird cage.

“BAWWWWK!” *eats like a horse*

The main reason I was looking forward to playing Yvette again, is I hoped she could start charging for her makeovers, since she earned her bronze styling badge on Marie Sims' adopted son Gabe when I played her household in Week 4.
Ugh, and I loathe the ridiculous outerwear crap, courtesy of the Sim Store, I believe. It seems like half the people in Mesa Vista wear it.

“Hey, I look great! You said I didn’t have to pay, right?”
*grrrr*

That’s right, Mesa Vistans still refused to pay for their makeovers.

Damn cheapskates…

Except for my Sim-son Steve, of course. He just got his sideburns trimmed, no reason to charge for that ;)

In the end it wasn’t a total loss, at least the townies were starting to look a little better.

Back to home/work, because Yvette had to make a living somehow. WOO, LOVE SEEING WORK CLOTHES AGAIN!
“Get.Me.Out.Of.This.”

Things were going swimmingly in Yvette’s career endeavors, and she soon earned that most awesome of career rewards, the Bookshelf of Education. I knew skilling with it was fast, but Sims Wiki says 500% faster. Wow!
And yes, Brandon, there’s a reason for that. Idiot.

Despite her success in her career, running the salon, her quest for a gold floral badge, getting the bird she wanted, and having no interest in romance at the moment, Yvette still felt unfulfilled.
She thought on it and thought on it…

“Hi, Meadow, long time no see. We should get together some time.”
…
“That’d be great, I’d love you to come visit.”

Next morning, Bianca looked about ready to gnaw on her leg...

“Mmmh, be right there, tweety.”

“Bianca? *gasp* OH NO BIANCA!”
D’OH! Poor Bianca lasted three, maybe four days. Too bad, she was a pretty albeit a kinda boring little thing.

“Fer a Fam’ly Sim, I sure ain’t much of a caregiver.”

“Bye-bye, little birdy. *sigh* Now who’s gonna keep me company?”

Meadow Pederson’s visit couldn’t have come at a better time.
“I’m sorry about your bird. Are you going to get another one?”
“No, I sold the bird cage. I was kinda hopin’… you’d be my roommate instead.”
“No kidding? Sure, I’ll be your roommate!”

Jackpot! It looked like we were finally getting somewhere…
Meadow had to quit her job as Hostess since the only open slot in the Culinary career was taken by Ryan Wheeler, the fiancé of Madaleine Mazza.

“But I have another plan for earning a living.”
“I’m listenin’.”
“Art gallery.”
“Nice, I didn’t know you were a painter.”
“Oh, I’m not, in fact I have hardly any Creativity at all.”
“I don’t think I see.”
“Culture! I’m very interested in Culture, so it’s more a matter of dealing art instead of creating it.”
“I s’pose that might work…”

“Of course… I’ll need more start-up funding than the fourteen thousand I have on me.”
“… How much more?”
“Because artwork obviously doesn’t come cheap.”
“How much more are we talkin’?”
“Eleven?”

Hey, don’t look at me like that!
“Are ya crazy?! That’ll wipe me, er, us out!”
But you have the money!
“Just barely! Have ya forgotten m’salon has no payin’ customers?”
No I haven’t forgotten *grumble*
“I been workin’ m’tail off fer what little I have in the bank!”
“Yoohoo, I’m right here, Yvette. I promise this is a winner, and you won’t have to lift a finger. I mean think about it, can you imagine how starved folks in Mesa Vista must be for some decent decoration in their homes?”
“Yes, I been yearnin’ to get some m’self, but…”
“I’m confident I can pay you back by the end of the week, this week.”
“Can I at least sleep on it?”

The next day at Pagoda Sushi, after a shopping trip to Outside Outfitters and a makeover at the salon…
“Can I ask ya somethin’, Meadow?”
“Sure.”
“Do ya want kids?”
“Of course. Family Sim and getting engaged and having children go hand-in-hand, right?”
“Then what kind of a Fam’ly Sim am I, cuz I don’t.”
“The getting engaged or having..?”
“None of it. I been thinkin’ that’s why it didn’t work out with me ‘n Brandon.”

“Is it possible you and Brandon didn’t work out because he was the wrong guy for you, period?”
“Well, there’s that too. But tell me, what kind o’ Fam’ly Sim doesn’t want t’have kids?”
“I don’t know. Maybe one that sees more than her share at her job everyday?”
“But I love my job and my kids, though they’re the big ones now I’m teachin’ at the university.”
“Maybe it’s just a timing thing.”
“Ya could be right, Meadow. I mean, if I’m too busy to keep a bird alive, imagine a poor a child at m’tender mercies.”
“Aw, honey, don’t talk like that. Those dumb birds are notorious for dropping like flies at the drop of a hat.”
“Poor little Bianca! *sniff*”
“I’m truly sorry you lost your bird, but it’s absolutely true what I said about them!”
Yvette sniffed again and then said, “I’ve decided you can have the money.”
“Thank you so much, Yvette. I promise to do everything in my power to pay back every simoleon.”

Meadow made some gelatin to take to her new business, because she was determined to stay there until she could pay Yvette back the full eleven thousand simoleons.

Say hello to Meadow’s art gallery, aptly named Meadow’s Art Gallery, because Meadow isn’t the only one lacking Creativity points :P
Note: since usually I can’t be bothered with building from scratch, this is a direct knock-off of Nemo/Twilightoutside’s art gallery that he built for his Instant City BaMC (Build a Metropolis Challenge). It’s definitely worth checking out if you like reading a good strategy: http://boolprop.net/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=349

Another view, because I love this picture.

And Meadow's was open for business! To speed things along *cough open the Artist career cough* Meadow’s gallery only sold art from the Buy Mode catalog.
“Oh my, it’s all so beautiful! Where do I start? Here? Or here? Help me decide, Meadow!”
Way to stay classy, Rebecka Rossi!

Meadow’s theory that Mesa Vista’s residents must be starved for art proved true, because her gallery was an instant hit.

Pretty soon the stars were flying!

The Servos in particular seemed to have a great appreciation for art, which I think is pretty cute.
Also, my new cash register configuration with the two locked gates worked really well, and I’ll probably start using it at my other small businesses.

Speaking of cash registers, I don’t know if it was a glitch or a mod I forgot I installed, but Meadow was earning Register badges at an unheard of pace.
It should also be fun taking a peek at the Servos’ inventories when I play their green energy lots.

“Excuse me, but may I say I’ve never seen a piece of art resemble a customer so closely.”

I think this was at Rank 3. Btw, I’m not really complaining, because running a register isn’t nearly as difficult as the game would have you believe.

An irresistible “scare your customers into buying” shot for Halloween :D

An overhead view of the gallery, a Sims architectural miracle of sorts, as there wasn’t one routing issue with that placement of the display pillars. Wow… just realized I don’t recall a single foot-stomping incident at Meadow’s!

I decided to choose the Wholesale perks for a change, since Meadow can probably put the Cash ones to better use later on.
It took Meadow three separate sessions to reach Rank 5, since her aspiration was never high enough to use an Energizer.

“Did you ever consider I might just be good at running a cash register?”
That again? Well, for the record, Meadow is officially awesome in my book. The gallery was hecka awesome plus fun and easy to run, and the Artist career was now open. What wasn’t awesome?

The Re-Nu-Yu Salon, that’s what. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

It too had reached Rank 5, and I was becoming so frustrated at the these townies who refused to pay even ridiculously cheap prices, I started relishing the backfires.

Yvette, however, was determined to make Re-Nu-Yu a success, or kill me trying.
“Now Joe, tell me that ain’t more debonair’n those samurai ponytails some o’ you older gentlemen are sportin’ ‘round here.”
“It certainly is, Miss Yvette. Now, uh, we agreed this was for free, right?”
GTFO, Joe!

Yvette doggedly continued giving free makeovers, gaining some satisfaction in helping those less fortunate in the looks department, like Audrey here, even though all the fun for me was pretty much gone.

The roommate idea wasn’t turning out to be as fun as I had hoped either. I envisioned two Family Sims with similar wants in common, but Yvette and Meadow never autonomously socialized with each other. Also, Meadow was constantly rolling wants to have a baby, so I thought it best to have her move out so she could start her own family.

Let’s see… what else could I heap onto Yvette’s plate? Hmm… Gordon Wolosenko’s obvious shyness was rather sweet *continues grasping for straws*
“Two bolts. I like him.”

“Would ya like to come over for dinner some time?”

Why yes, he would!

Or maybe not, because he left right away.
Arrrgh, can nothing in this week be straight-forward?!

“Rats, he didn’t get to see m’new dress.”
Well, do you want him or not?
“Let me call him again and see.”

By all means, Yvette, don’t break your ambivalent streak…

“I think I’ll take him.”
Good enough for me.

Woo, look at that, Gordon Wolosensko already has a job in the Business career, plus he moved in with §16,000. That’s definitely keeper material!

Although he acts like a bit of a dork. And he’s been shopping at the Droid store and art gallery. The wall art will actually look nice in the house.

Meadow was about a thousand short of repaying her loan from Yvette in full, which she made up for by giving her a fully charged Energizer instead. I would take that deal, how about you?

“Bye, Meadow, see ya next week.”
“Yes, I’m sure I’ll be around. Good luck, Yvette.”

Meadow Pederson found a charming Spanish Colonial Starter built by NinjaNaco at MTS, with the courtyard plants and interior modified slightly be me.
We’ll visit Meadow at her new home in Week 6.

Back at Yvette’s:
I have to say Gordon is pretty sweet, and strikes me as a bit naïve.

After seeing this picture, obviously after Gordon had moved in, I wondered if I had chosen a secondary aspiration of Popularity for Yvette and just forgot about it, but no, she just wanted to be friends with all her freeloading clients. If there’s a Family Sim hiding somewhere inside her, I have yet to find it.
I spent the whole week playing her totally baffled, which made writing her very difficult.

You know what? Eff it, they’re having a baby.

“Hey y’all, I’m the high school principal and look, she put the VC back in!”
For now. I was also happy to see she’s finally free of Brandon London.
But most importantly, I’m free of this wonky, exhausting week with Yvette Tan!
BaCC quick stats:
Playable Sims: 65 (64 + 1 grave) plus more on the way!
SM: 21
Population: 1365
Thanks for reading and Happy Simming!
